Recently claim was made of creation of life in laboratory by the maverick scientist Craig Venter working in his own institute in Rockville in USA. This was for the first time that a living cell that could divide and procreate, was made starting from ingredients that had no life. This marks a major leap in the capabilities of biologist and brings in focus the question whether God alone could have created life. Charavakas in ancient India held the view that life and consciousness were just by-products of mixing elements in a particular configuration.
