Sahir Ludhianavi was born in 1921 in a Jamindar family in Ludhiana. He migrated to Pakistan at the time of partition but returned back to India since Pakistani Government had issued an arrest warrant in response to some of his writings. Back in India he received huge recognition for his poetry within and outside Bombay film industry. He could never marry and his inability to be united with his love is very often reflected in his poetry. In the poem below, he puts up a powerful argument against injustice, atrocities, hatred and war. Meanings of some tough Urdu words have been provided. Rajiv Krishna Saxena
